Brand Spotlight: Favorite Daughter

What if, instead of buying what you wished you had in your closet, you made them instead? That’s exactly what sisters Erin and Sara Foster did when they founded Favorite Daughter.

The power duo is no stranger to the entertainment and business industry. From 2017 to 2020, they served as co-heads for creative for Bumble. They have also collaborated with clothing brand Sub Urban Riot to create a line of T-shirts and sweatpants. Many have come to know them for their quick wit, which they get to showcase regularly on their podcast, The World's First Podcast with Erin & Sara Foster.

Not wanting to spend $10,000 on a new outfit but still wanting to look nice, they realized the absurdity of shelling out thousands of dollars on a new coat while not being sure how to pay that month’s rent – a reality that many women face today.

Despite the sisters’ connections to Hollywood and having a fashionable group of friends, Erin and Sara are not big spenders. “A lot of our friends work in fashion, and they’re willing to spend $2,500 on a coat without blinking,” Erin says.

They started developing Favorite Daughter just before the pandemic with a mission to create high quality garments at affordable prices for the “girl who loves shopping at Zara but is kind of tired of shopping there.” Their words, not mine.

The sisters’ big break into the fashion world happened at a time when loungewear was all the rage due to the pandemic. The brand’s hero product was the masked hoodie outfit that featured a hoodie with a detachable face covering. They launched Favorite Daughter with basics such as a cashmere cardigan bodysuit, a cashmere cable sweater, cashmere turtlenecks, a blazer, and of course, everyone’s favorite: sweats.

“We know we have zero experience in the fashion industry other than our few collaborations and we know we may piss a few people off considering that. We want to learn, we want to be mindful and mission driven,” Sara says.

Today, the brand has two stores in California in addition to their thriving website. They have their eyes set on potentially expanding to other cities, such as New York City. They are also in the process of working on a fragrance that not only smells amazing but lasts all day. We can’t wait to see where they take the brand!
